Bathrooms are no longer just practical spaces. They are sanctuaries for relaxation, rejuvenation, and individual expression. In 2025, homeowners across Sydney are leading the way with updates that bring together daily functionality and sophisticated design. Across the suburbs, families and renovators alike want bathrooms that look striking yet work perfectly for busy lifestyles.
This year, five key trends are making waves, from sustainable materials and earth-inspired palettes to luxurious comforts that deliver wellness at home. If you are planning a renovation or simply dreaming of a refresh, here is a detailed look at how to own the latest bathroom style in Sydney.
Sustainable Choices: Green Is The New Gorgeous
The move to sustainability is no longer a niche consideration. It is at the core of 2025 bathroom design. Homeowners are prioritising finishes and fixtures that do less harm to the environment, while enjoying enduring style and value. Some key approaches include:
- Water-saving tapware and toilets: Modern dual-flush toilets and aerated taps can drastically cut water bills while maintaining strong performance.
- Sustainable materials: Engineered stone benches reduce resource use and landfill.
- Eco paint and finishes: Low-VOC paints and natural sealants keep bathrooms healthy and allergy-friendly. This is especially important for family homes.
- Energy-efficient lighting: LED downlights and sensor-triggered task lights use less power, last longer, and create a luxurious lighting experience.
Opting for eco-friendly materials does not mean sacrificing style. Australian brands are now offering a range of high-end, sustainable products that rival the finishes of any luxury build. This gives homeowners in Sydney the best of both worlds.
Smart Technology: Bringing Intelligence To Everyday Rituals
Tech-driven features in the bathroom have moved from novelty to necessity, especially in thriving, modern suburbs like The Hills and The Northern Beaches. In 2025, smart innovations are changing both comfort and usability.
- Smart toilets, such as Roca In Wash Inspira or Caroma Urbane II Smart Bidet, make shared bathrooms hygienic and user-friendly for kids and elders.
- Smart thermostatic shower mixers let you pre-set temperature and flow with a single touch, ensuring no more freezing mornings; our Collaroy project for example uses a Grohe SmartControl.
- Heated flooring and anti-fog mirrors ensure showers are always comfortable, and mirrors stay clear for grooming at any hour.
- Under-cabinet and ambient lighting controlled by your phone or a simple sensor make night-time visits safer.
By integrating smart features, homeowners future-proof their investment and ensure their bathroom experience is as seamless as possible for years to come.

Natural Palettes & Calming Design
The colour trends shaping bathrooms in Sydney in 2025 lean heavily on soft, natural influences. Earthy tones and organic texture are everywhere, reflecting a broader movement toward comfort and tranquillity at home.
Leading ideas include:
- Warm mineral whites, light oat, or pale clay for walls and floors that offer a blank canvas and will not date.
- Feature tiles in deep sage, navy blue, or matte black to create focal interest and set off otherwise neutral palettes.
- Brushed brass or matte gunmetal tapware stands out against stone and tile, adding warmth and elegance.
- Natural timber accents like floating shelves, stools, or vanities, driven by sustainably-sourced Australian species.
- Greenery is a huge trend. Potted ferns, succulents, or even small vertical gardens thrive in natural bathroom humidity.
These choices help create bathrooms that feel restful and welcoming, not clinical. Soft edges, curved mirrors, and streamlined cabinetry continue the trend for natural calm, catering to both traditional and ultra-modern tastes.

Spa & Wellness Features: Creating Your At-Home Retreat
There is a new focus on bathrooms as spaces for wellness and self-care, shaped by both global trends and local demand for personal space. The latest renovations now include:
- Rainfall showers and dual-head shower systems for a spa-like cascade that turns the daily rinse into a luxury experience.
- Deep soaking tubs or freestanding bathtubs for a hotel-style soak at home. Even in compact spaces, innovative layouts make tubs possible.
- Steam showers, foot spas, and inbuilt seating for next-level relaxation.
- LED mood lighting, heated towel ladders, and underfloor heating for total comfort, even in the depths of winter.
By layering multiple wellness features, homeowners prioritise health and add remarkable resale value, making their home stand out in the competitive market.
Custom Storage & Practical Elegance
Clutter is the enemy of a true sanctuary. Smart, custom storage is a hallmark of 2025 bathrooms, creating clean lines and boosting daily usability:
- Recessed and floating vanities free up floor space, making even small bathrooms feel larger.
- Custom-built wall niches and shelf units keep toiletries and décor organised without compromising bench space.
- Pull-out storage, soft-close drawers, and laundry hampers are now standard for family homes.
- Mirror cabinets with built-in lighting offer dual function and keep grooming tools hidden but easy to reach.
- Discreet in-shower shelving and corner units prevent bottle build-up and simplify cleaning.
The focus on integrated, tailored storage keeps bathrooms easy to clean and beautiful to live in, regardless of household size.

Welcome to a tour of one of the most stunning bathroom renovations you’ll ever see, brought to you by Novalé! In this property in Vaucluse, Novalé undertook the task of renovating not one, not two, but six bathrooms, each with its own unique theme, and the result is nothing short of breath taking.
From the initial concept to the final touches, Novalé worked closely with the homeowner to ensure every detail was just right. What was once a collection of outdated and cramped spaces has been transformed into six luxurious and inviting sanctuaries. The bathrooms now showcase the owner’s individual style and taste, with differing styles in each bathroom that combine to create one seamless overall aesthetic.
Upon entering each bathroom, you’ll be struck by the attention to detail and the carefully chosen elements that make it unique. From the elegant marble and statement wallpaper to sleek fixtures and stunning lighting, every aspect of these bathrooms has been thoughtfully considered and expertly executed.
Join us on this journey as we explore each of the six renovated bathrooms in this Vaucluse property. You’ll be amazed at the transformation and the attention to detail that went into each space. Whether you’re looking for inspiration for your own bathroom renovation or simply enjoy the finer things in life, these bathrooms are sure to impress.
Main Bathroom
The layout of the main bathroom changed. Can you tell us about how you created this new floorplan?
When beginning with the main bathroom in this Vaucluse house, we realised that the existing layout of the bathroom simply wasn’t suited to what the family required. To solve this, we started by considering what the family’s needs were, and then assessed how we might fit this into a new layout. Once this was decided, we realised that it may be best to divide the space into two sections, using two nib walls to create a seamless transition from a wet space with a bath and two shower roses, into a vanity space designed for the family’s everyday needs.

Can you tell us about your colour choices?
The colour palette we opted for in this bathroom took a great deal of inspiration from the location of the house. Being in the beautiful coastal suburb of Vaucluse, we wanted the bathroom to benefit from an ocean vibe, so we decided to bring in some nice shades of blue to reflect this. To further this colour scheme, we introduced the “Neu” tapware range in a lovely brushed nickel finish. We decided to go with that to match the Timberline vanity and the nice light timber finish of the drawers.
Master Ensuite Bathroom
What was the brief for the master ensuite bathroom?
For the Master bedroom’s ensuite, the brief and vision was to create something more luxurious using black and white throughout. This was a challenge that we relished, and the way that we approached this brief was in quite a literal manner. We aimed to showcase a beautiful black and white floor in marble with a hexagonal shape. This is the hero piece of the room, and everything else complements it. All aspects and features from the black vanity, the beautiful marble walls, the marble tops, and the chrome tapware work together to showcase the luxurious vision for this bathroom.

Daughters Ensuite
The Daughter’s ensuite stands out from the rest of the spaces within the house more than the others. Can you tell us about your approach to this renovation?
When renovating this bathroom, inspiration was taken from this ensuite being the daughters and the look she was wanting to achieve. From here, we decided to bring in some lovely pink tones in the beautiful penny round on 2 of the bathroom walls.
We introduced an arched shaving cabinet to complement the round features throughout the room, including the rounded tapware, the rounded basin, as well as the round shower rose. We implemented gold matte tapware to compliment the pink tones throughout the bathroom.

Bathroom 4
Tell us about the reasons behind the design choices in the fourth bathroom.
In the fourth bathroom, we found the space to hold a masculine feel, so we decided to continue this theme and incorporate a sense of ruggedness into our design choices. In order to do this, we brought in some darker timber in the vanity, a beautiful stone top in the vanity top, and went for a darker feature tile in herringbone. We wanted to ensure that all of the features are subtle, whilst providing that hint of a masculine feel. We’ve also incorporated a twin shower in the shower area, a shaving mirror on the wall, and cornered glass shelving to elevate the space.

Downstairs Bathroom
What aspects were important to consider for the downstairs bathroom?
When it came to deciding which elements and fixtures would best suit the space, it was important to consider that the bathroom had to service quite a few functions. While downstairs bathrooms can often be used the least of all bathrooms, we were tasked with updating a space that services the pool outside, as well as the family dog that does come in and out of the room quite a lot, sleeping in there too.
Due to the areas this bathroom services and the way it is used, we needed the floor to be more of a neutral tone so that it did not pick up too much dirt. However, we also wanted to ensure we created a space where guests could also come in and enjoy a calming environment, and we feel we’ve achieved that.

Understairs Toilet
The understairs toilet are is very small, and seemed quite a challenge. Can you give some insight into how you created such a unique space?
So, what do you do when you have the tiniest, tiniest understairs toilet area with no window? Do you paint it all white to make more light come in? In this case, we went a little against the grain, and instead, we made this understairs toilet quite dark, utilising a really bespoke black wallpaper with pineapple patterns. We did this because in many cases, making a space quite dark can actually make it feel and appear larger. The ceiling light allowed us to add a little bit of extra glamour and a luxurious feel to this bathroom.

The six bathrooms share a visual identity, but each has their own personality. How did you achieve this?
While the bathrooms share a common design language, we also wanted to give each one its own personality. To do this, we incorporated unique elements such as different colourings, tile patterns, varying sizes and shapes of mirrors, and distinct lighting fixtures. We also paid close attention to the specific needs and preferences of each bathroom user, incorporating personalised touches such as custom storage solutions and specific hardware selections, ensuring we quality designs were complemented by functional inclusions fit for everyday use. By striking a balance between consistency and individuality, we were able to create six distinct, yet harmonious bathrooms that complemented the overall aesthetic of the home.

When on the lookout for bathroom renovation ideas, it sometimes leaves us yearning for and desiring looks that we believe are very impractical, unattainable, and costly. As may be expected, any new bathroom renovation is a considerable undertaking where some expenses are involved. Furthermore, such a task can often be complex and intricate if your space is small, awkwardly shaped or even does not have much natural lighting emitting into the room.
Needless to say, not all bathroom renovations call for you to invest a lot of money towards the renovation or to remove any fixtures – or walls, for that matter. It is attainable to achieve a bathroom renovation on a budget whilst still executing the same beautiful finish that you desire, minus the costs. Here are some tips to help you achieve that dream bathroom makeover on a budget.
Plan Ahead & Do Your Research
During any bathroom refit, it is important that you are aware of and recognises the type of space that you have to work with. Before making any product selections, make sure you measure all the key areas. Ensure that you measure up all of your key areas, such as the space where a vanity may go, a bathtub may sit, or even where mirrors can possibly be hung. Being prepared with all the dimensions of your space is key, as this will act as a way to filter out certain products that won’t be the right fit for the space.
Prior to any bathroom reno, obtaining bathroom renovation inspiration from the latest trends online as well as from magazines can allow you to explore a variety of bathroom styles that you may love to be incorporated into your bathroom.
Stick to your guns. Be sure that you communicate all your dream bathroom aspirations with your bathroom renovators so that they can adjust any aspects of your bathroom to suit your preferred product and design selections.

Create The Illusion Of Space
If you only have a small bathroom, a great tip for your bathroom renovation is to create the illusion of space. Bathroom designs that play tricks with your eye are your best friend when it comes to renovating a small bathroom. Here in this Balmain bathroom renovation project, we have designed the bathroom in a way where there is a wall-hung vanity unit that allows the underlighting to emit directly onto the floor, making the space feel larger than it actually is.

Incorporating various textural components to even the most neutral-toned bathrooms with matte black fixtures and hardware can enhance the appearance of your space even further. Making for a very modern and sleek design, it looks great in just about any space. The shower fixtures, tap fixtures and towel rails work towards the sleekness of the bathroom and paired with neutral-toned wall tiles, it makes the space feel light and bright.

The addition of the shelves next to the bathtub also creates a sense of added space within the bathroom. Making use of any dead space is a smart way to make the bathroom feel more open, and this is just what you need in any small bathroom – a feeling of openness.
Have A Solid & Realistic Budget In Place
Bathroom home improvements can sometimes be expensive due to the number of amazing bathroom items available on the market. This is why it is vital that you have a solid and reasonable budget in place. Ensure you are looking at bathroom items that you can afford. Don’t bother looking at that $10,000 stone bath if you know you cannot afford it.
Furthermore, determine the amount of tiling you will need in square meters. You may possibly have found the most beautiful tile, but remember that tile prices do vary greatly.
Each square metre you require may end up costing you hundreds on top of your renovation costs. Therefore, understanding what you require will prevent you from moving away from your end goal – a bathroom built to your budget.
Hire The Right Professionals
Whether it be builders, plumbers, interior designers or electricians, it is crucial that you select a trusted tradesperson and do your research on your selected bathroom renovation company. Try to get some recommendations from friends and family. Also, look at some images of their past projects to see if their work aligns with what you are looking for.
In addition, consider hiring a company that is insured. Having insurance can make a massive difference in your bathroom renovation. Novalé is the first and only bathroom renovation company in Australia to hold the prestigious ISO Award. ISO is an Independent Global Body that assesses your work on every level, ensuring that you deliver to the highest quality standards.
Here at Novalé, we want you to have the bathroom of your dreams. We understand that renovating a bathroom is a huge expense, so that is why we offer finance options to minimise the burden. While bathrooms are often an afterthought when homes are bought and renovated, they are integral to a functional and luxurious home. A well-designed layout equipped with high-quality appliances and finishes makes a world of difference to one’s daily life, making for a stress-free and efficient start to the day, and a relaxing space to wind down each night. Investing in your bathroom adds value to your home and enhances your quality of life, as despite being commonly neglected, bathrooms are among the most important and heavily used spaces in any home. Consequently, modern bathroom ideas are hugely important in improving your home’s functionality and enhancing your daily life.
Small Bathroom Renovations
Despite their frequent use, bathrooms are often among the smallest spaces in any home. To maximise the potential of these spaces, small bathroom renovations are absolutely integral and must be informed by careful planning related to its layout to maximise its functionality, and with design in mind to ensure you create a space that matches your tastes. After all, we use our bathrooms multiple times each day, so it only makes sense to create a space that is pleasant to be in.
In small bathrooms, maximising storage spaces and carefully organising products and fixtures is of great importance. To get the most out of your space, consider implementing the following:
- Shelving
When space is limited, consider installing extra shelving within your bathroom to ensure your surfaces remain uncluttered and aesthetically pleasing. Recess shelving within your shower cubicle is a fantastic way to make the most of a largely unappreciated space, and a wall-mounted towel rail maximises your storage space and further adds to a chic theme.

- Integrated Cistern
An integrated cistern is another inclusion to consider for your small bathroom renovations, as this minimises the space taken up by your toilet and opens up your available room. These compact designs are also extremely stylish and on-trend, creating a clean, uncluttered look perfect for smaller spaces.

- Mirror, Mirror On The Wall
If space is tight, integrating several mirrors into your small bathroom renovations can open up the space more than you’d think and allow multiple people to use the bathroom at once. Alternatively, by installing a full-width mirror across an entire wall, you’ll have the option of integrating a large bank of shelving behind the mirror, and you’ll benefit from a huge influx of light and pattern reflections that make your space feel bigger.

- Light and Bright
Incorporating a light colour palette into your bathroom renovations helps to make your space feel bigger than it truly is, and combining this with a glass shower door creates an uninterrupted feeling of space and light. Weather permitting, keep your windows open and let in as much natural light as possible to spark an indulgent and contemporary feel.

Modern Bathroom Ideas
To make the most of your bathroom renovations, you may wish to take inspiration from some of the modern bathroom ideas that have captured the imagination of those home renovation professionals in 2023.
- Terrazzo Styling
The previous preference toward Terrazo-styled bathrooms has reemerged in recent years, with the added texture and chic styling suiting contemporary desires for a retro vibe. These tiles are effective when you’d like an understated design that holds a unique pattern, and they can be easily installed on walls and floors.

- Natural Materials
One of the most enduring modern bathroom ideas and home renovations more generally in recent years has been the embracing of nature. Natural materials are being favoured in many bathroom renovations, with natural stone and wood materials often being used to create bespoke sinks and vanities.

- Floating Vanity
Floating vanities have truly taken the bathroom renovations landscape by storm, and when paired with enclosed storage solutions, these design inclusions contribute to a clean and open feel that makes the most of your space.

Bathroom Renovations on a Budget
While many modern bathroom ideas and design features have a fantastic visual appeal, they can come at a significant cost. If you’d like to steer clear of those major bathroom renovations that can cost a pretty penny, consider some of these simple bathroom inclusion that can transform your space without breaking the bank.
- Plants and Greenery
A modern, updated feel can be achieved within your bathroom by simply incorporating some small plants and greenery into your design. Known as a biophilic approach, including multiple plants can add a contrasting texture that brings the best out of your existing materials and patterns, and can create a sanctuary-like feel that’s reminiscent of a spa experience.
- Showcase Your Existing Features
Many modern bathroom renovations and small bathroom renovations are now geared towards accentuating a contrast of old and new, and fortunately, this is a very budget-friendly design choice. Cut your costs by including a modern sink with existing tap elements, or renovate one element of your bathroom, such as your flooring, to create a contrast that makes the most of your existing features.

Bathroom renovations are an exciting time, especially when seeing your previous bathroom being transformed into something you have dreamed of. With this being said, many people feel overwhelmed with the bathroom renovation process whether that is due to the number of decisions to be made, the cost or the time and effort it takes.
This is why our experts at Novalé have come up with a range of tips and tricks to get you through your next major bathroom renovations and make the process as seamless and stress-free as possible!
Tip 1: Consider Styling And Upcoming Trends
Several trends are predicted for 2023 that may be helpful to consider when deciding on the styling and overall design for your bathroom renovation. A few trends that have been identified in 2023 include curved basin sinks, uniquely shaped mirrors or a unique tile such as terrazzo, subway tiles in a colour of your choice or a tile with different finishes such as a gloss or satin finish.
Tip 2: Incorporate A Pop Of Colour
You may want to consider incorporating colour into your next bathroom renovations! A pop of colour within bathrooms has been growing in popularity over the last couple of years, and it does not look like it will be phasing out anytime soon. Whether you prefer a white and neutral look bathroom, or you prefer a dark bathroom with a pop of colour or a contrasting tone, colour is a great way to add a level of depth and make your bathroom look unique whilst still modern and encompassing the design you are striving for.

Tip 3: Understand Your Needs And Requirements
Bathrooms are generally quite a small area, which is why it is important for many people to utilise their space for practicality and functionality purposes. Utilising existing space for cabinets, drawers, and shelves wherever possible allows you to store bathroom items and towels as necessary and to limit clutter on your benchtop.
Implementing a niche into your shower wall allows for the storage of shower items without having to store them on the floor for your shower or install an extra hanging shelf.

Tip 4: Consider Colour Psychology For Your Design
Our experts at Novalé have spoken on the significance of colour psychology in a bathroom previously. The colours you choose to implement within your bathroom may have an effect on lighting, but they will also impact the mood and setting of your bathroom. White often symbolises cleanliness and innocence as a blank canvas to be able to work and alter to fit your design choices. Green often reminds people of nature and the environment which is seen as a calming colour, making it a popular choice to integrate into bathrooms through tiles or decor.
Tip 5: Allocate A Budget And Plan Timing
Renovating a bathroom can be a time-consuming and costly process. It is important to set a budget for what you are aiming to spend on various parts of your bathroom renovations to ensure you have a plan to stick to. From here, you may wish to divide your budget into specific percentages which you are willing to pay on various aspects. When you begin the renovations process, reach out to your bathroom renovators or contractors to receive quotes for tiling, cabinetry, and all installations to ensure you have a guide on pricing.
Depending on what is involved in your bathroom renovation, the time it may take for it to be completed can vary greatly depending on the nature and complexities of the renovations. Your bathroom renovators may be able to give you a rough guideline on the expected timeframe your renovations may take. If your renovations may take a while, it is important to come up with a plan of which bathrooms you will be able to use in your house in the meantime or make further adjustments.

So if you are struggling to come up with some modern bathroom ideas for your next bathroom renovation,
- Curved Basins
Curved bathrooms are all the rage for the coming year. There is nothing that speaks more to the mood of now than the smooth, sleek and soft finishes of a curved basin. Arched shapes and rounded-off edges have taken over sharp, pristine lines, showing beyond doubt that outstanding features can introduce a more accepting and relaxed environment in what can generally feel like a cold and clinical area.

This serene bathroom renovations Sydney project spoke everything curves. From a curved basin and mirror cabinet to a curved freestanding tub, all the way down to the curved fixtures throughout. These modern bathroom ideas introduce a visual rhythm creating a relaxed and soft feel to the space.

- Terrazzo Tiles
It is without a doubt that terrazzo tiles are living their best life out in the world right now. Made from a mixture of ground minerals such as marble, granite and quartz, terrazzo tiles have been honouring the floors and walls of homes for centuries. With a recent comeback in favourability and popularity, they are being utilised now more than ever in Australian bathrooms.

Terrazzo tiles are the perfect addition to any bathroom renovation Sydney where you can give your bathroom a tasteful and stylish update. No matter if you opt for a more neutral tile look like in this Cremorne Point bathroom renovation, or go for a more colourful look, these tiles will definitely make a statement. Plus, what’s great about terrazzo tiles is that they are extremely versatile. What more could you ask for?
- Champagne Rose Gold Tapware
2023 bathroom renovations are calling for bold, champagne rose gold tapware. Having been around for many years, champagne rose gold tapware has been introduced in numerous variations and is now awakening during this brushed tapware revival. For a bathroom that exudes elegance, champagne rose gold tapware is an excellent choice.

Champagne rose gold tapware offers a very natural feel that very few bathroom tapware options can provide. As a bonus, if you are worried about cleaning brushed tapware, this certain colour tapware conceals marks a lot better as opposed to a chrome tapware finish.
- Doorless Walk-In Showers
A major trend that our Novalé designers will continue to take into 2023 is the utilisation of a doorless walk-in shower. A rendered and tiled partition wall resembles a shower screen without the use of any glass. The incorporation of a doorless walk-in shower typically feels much more natural in the room as it allows the space to flow, offering a much more seamless feel in comparison to glass.

This North Bondi bathroom renovation limits the separation between the shower and the rest of the bathroom and proves to be a unique twist on the basic walk-in shower. The seamless transition into the wet area also eliminated the need for a raised step into the shower. It is truly a must-have modern bathroom idea for your upcoming bathroom renovation.

Begin Your Bathroom Renovations with Novalé
Bathroom design trends for 2023 provide many fascinating ways to add colour and visual appeal to a space. The focus on colour and shapes this year, for example, expands the possibilities for creating distinctive, attractive bathrooms that are carefully customised to the homeowners’ likes and lifestyles.
If you’re still undecided about which trends to utilise in your next bathroom renovation, contact our team, and we’ll walk you through the process.

Colour psychology refers to the study of responses to emotional and physiological aspects of colour and communication. The colourings chosen have the ability to draw people in as some people gravitate towards certain colours and have distinct connections and emotions with colours.
It is essential to think about how various designs, styles and colours tie together within the bathrooms in your home. The colour palette you choose for your bathrooms can have a significant effect on its overall personality and the feel you want your bathroom to give off.
There are various ways to incorporate different colours into your bathroom, whether you are looking for coloured vanities, a pop of colour in a splashback or bright cupboards – the choice is yours! Below are some of the colours and the impacts they have on their communication to take into consideration for your upcoming bathroom renovations!
White
In regards to colour psychology, white signifies purity, cleanliness and innocence. White is often viewed as a blank canvas, as other pops of colours can be incorporated through tapware, cabinetry, tapware or through decorative pieces such as towels and soaps. Using decorative pieces such as towels allows for change of these colours whilst always having the neutral and blank canvas of white vanity and tiles.
White can often feel very bright, especially with the help of natural lighting which makes the space appear more open which is why white is often chosen for small bathroom renovations.

Orange
Orange is often linked to being a bright, joyful and passionate colour in regards to colour psychology. Orange has an element of warmth and is often incorporated within bathrooms and during bathroom renovations for added dimension through bright oranges and through various orange shades such as terracotta.
In this bathroom renovation completed by our team in Lambton, an orange tile is utilised in various shades in little tiles as a backsplash behind a bath.

Black
Black has been a popular colouring choice in homes and bathrooms due to its simplicity. Black has a mysterious, modern design which is incorporated in the majority of bathroom designs from black cabinetry to black tapware depending on the amount of colour you are wanting to showcase.
Black is an extremely versatile colour, although there are reasons within colour psychology why many of us are drawn to the colour black. Black is often associated with power and strength.
In small bathroom renovations, black tapware throughout the entirety of the bathroom is a great way to elevate your bathroom and add a modern touch, whilst ensuring your bathroom does not appear too dark or closed off.
Green
Often the colour green reminds people of the environment and nature which provides calm and peaceful emotions with a sense of growth and renewal. Green is often incorporated into bathrooms for a natural ambience and to promote positive and upbeat feelings.
This image is from a bathroom renovation in Baulkham Hills which incorporated a green leaf print into the walls of the shower to create a feature.

A second example of how to incorporate green into a bathroom is from this bathroom renovation in North Bondi which utilises subtle green tones such as sage throughout the tiling on the walls. The subtle green tones with tiles are becoming a popular choice in bathrooms to bring in a pop of colour whilst still being subtle, as well as a light sage cabinet being a popular choice.

Pink
In colour psychology pink is often linked to feelings of love, compassion, kindness and calmness. The colour pink has become a popular choice to incorporate into bathrooms whether it’s through pink tiles as splashbacks or through decorative pieces.
This bathroom renovation in Kincumber has utilised a pink geometric tile as a splashback. There are a variety of shades of pinks that create a variety of cool or warm undertones to create a look you desire. Reach out to our bathroom experts at Novalé for any bathroom renovations Sydney!

Accessories include a range of modern steely metallic finishes, classic whites teamed with dark greys, or black grouting for a dash of urban styles, all working together to create a dramatic backdrop.

The Inner West council is among Sydney’s largest local government areas, a community of distinctively creative and dynamic neighbourhoods, defined by many cultures, philosophies, and life experiences.
From Ashfield to Hurlstone Park, most Inner West housing is connected terraces with smaller rooms and bathrooms. As a result, most Inner West bathroom installations require innovative small bathroom renovation tactics to make the most of their quaint inner-city living spaces.
Whether you own an apartment, terrace or house, small bathrooms are typical for many Inner West residents. While many people think that narrow and small bathroom installations are limited in size and arrangement in terms of function and style, that’s not always the case.
In actuality, making a small bathroom installation appear larger and seem more spacious, all while incorporating personal décor, is an art that many designers jump at the chance to tackle.
To demonstrate just how exciting small bathroom renovations can be, let’s take a look at a past Novalé Inner West bathroom renovation in Marrickville. Even though this Marrickville bathroom renovation includes four bathroom installations and a laundry renovation, each room is relatively small and narrow. As a result, Novalé designers utilised several design tips and tricks to make these standard small and narrow bathrooms look great and feel larger than they are.
So, how do you make a bathroom installation visually look bigger? Here are four design tricks Novalé designers used to make narrow and small bathroom installations look larger in this Marrickville home.
Bounce Light with a Light Colour Scheme
One of the most common questions Novalé is asked for small bathroom renovations is, what colours make a small bathroom look larger?
A trick that Novalé designers regularly use to make a space feel larger is to pick one light colour and use that throughout the space. Complementing colours are then used through texture to add another element. Even though a bathroom installation is small, a cohesive colour palette can make the space feel larger than it is, creating an airy atmosphere.

In our Marrickville small bathroom renovation example, the marble’s visual pattern helps add another element of texture into the small bathroom installation whilst also keeping the urban design and monochrome colour pattern in line.
With a white emphasis from the marble, natural light can easily bounce throughout the space, making the area feel lighter and more expansive than it actually is. Plus, the large marble tile mirroring on the floor up the wall achieves a seamless and spacious feel.

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with a black and white colour scheme in a small bathroom renovation! The darker hues of matte black create details throughout the bathroom installation, which gives the eyes interesting focal points to look at, so the space does not seem dull. The black offers attention-grabbing details and helps to expand the space.
Make a Statement with the Floor or Wall
One of the best ways to make any narrow or small bathroom renovation feel larger is by highlighting the room’s length rather than its width by using a stand-out tile on the largest empty area of the space. As a result, when individuals walk into the bathroom, all their attention focuses on the large tile area and tricks their brain into thinking that the surface area is more expansive.
Thus, creating a focal point with a bright, exciting, or patterned tile makes the space look larger and feel more spacious.
The key to making a bespoke tile or feature wall really work in a small bathroom renovation is to ensure the tiles don’t overwhelm the rest of the room. A good tip is to balance out the striking pattern with plain colours throughout other elements in the space, ensuring both aspects complement each other seamlessly.
Two of the bathroom installations in our Marrickville small bathroom renovation case study have a feature tile.
In our first bathroom installation, all attention is captured by the gorgeous geometrical black and white floor tiles. This small bathroom renovation creates the perfect monochrome bathroom with subtle white elements thought the rest of the space.

Following the same methodology, another bathroom installation from this Marrickville case study makes a statement with the colourful feature wallpaper.

No Small Bathroom Renovation is Complete without Innovative Storage Solutions!
One of the most challenging aspects of small bathroom renovations is incorporating lots of storage, in addition to making the storage appear elegant and integrated into the overall design. Remember to utilise your walls for smart storage that doesn’t take up too much space, such as installing wall cabinets, built-in nooks, or even basic shelves!

Open-plan bathroom storage solutions are here to stay since they’re attractive and great for displaying all of your favourite lotions and potions, as well as colourful plants! The only stipulation is that things must remain nice and tidy because they are on display.
Pretty much each small bathroom renovation in our Marrickville case study utilises hidden storage behind the mirrors. It’s just a no-brainer – for small bathroom renovations, as the mirror provides a wealth of deep storage, all whilst not intruding into the room. These minor yet compelling elements are what elevate a concept to the level of a designer.
Always Opt for Wall-Hung Sink Cabinets
Wall-hung units – or units on slender legs – are the finest option for faking square footage in any small bathroom renovation. Simply because they allow people to see the room’s borders, tricking the eye into thinking the space is more expansive. Again, pretty much each small bathroom renovation in our Marrickville case study utilises floating vanities.

For a cohesive effect in your small bathroom renovation, make sure you choose a floating vanity style that matches the colour of your walls and think about wall-mounted taps, which allow for slimmer basins and more space on top for bathroom accoutrements.

Often inspired by ‘a day spa’ aesthetic, a serene bathroom renovation evokes a minimalist and calming palette that transforms a bathroom into a haven. The serene bathroom design conjures clean, classic, and incredibly relaxing feelings, resulting in a breathtakingly tranquil finish.
With a harmonising colour palette, standout wood features combined with good quality marble, Novale’s recent bathroom renovation in Newcastle generates a sense of poise inside this suburban home and screams the serene aesthetic.
To give you some bathroom renovation ideas, we’ve broken down how the elements in this serene bathroom renovation work to inspire your dream bathroom renovation.

Glass Shower Screen
While glass shower screens are no longer a one-size-fits-all option, with many curved or geometric designs and stunning metallic or coloured frames available, but for a serene aesthetic, a totally frameless shower screen was ideal for this bathroom renovation Newcastle.
A frameless shower is composed of thick and unobstructed glass, secured to the wall with unobtrusive metal clamps for a minimalist aesthetic. Plus, since the whole glass panel is visible, there are no tight corners for dirt to build up, making frameless shower screens quick and straightforward to clean.
A glass shower screen gives a clean, light, and uncomplicated aesthetic in a bathroom. The uncluttered glazing of frameless shower screens opens the room up and allows more light in. As there is no need for empty floor space to allow for the door’s trajectory without a shower door, making the area appear and feel larger in this bathroom renovation Newcastle.
Frameless shower screens don’t fight for attention with other design components in a bathroom, which is a valuable bathroom renovation idea for smaller spaces. The glass shower screen in this bathroom renovation Newcastle allows other material choices and defining features in the room to stand out, like the eye-catching bathroom vanity and mirror with wood features.

Eye-Catching Bathroom Vanity & Mirror with Wood Features
The overabundance of bathroom vanity materials makes choosing the ideal one a bit of a brain twister. Luckily since bathroom surfaces aren’t subjected to the same level of abuse as kitchen surfaces, homeowners can focus more on aesthetics and price than strength.
For a warm and natural appeal, wood is hard to beat as this versatile raw material makes a stunning bathroom renovation idea with any decor.
Surrounding a plain mirror with a beautiful frame is a unique bathroom renovation idea with unlimited possibilities. In this bathroom renovation Newcastle, the clean lines are echoed in the modest yet beautiful wooden mirror. With a custom-built mirror, valuable storage is created by using the dead space from behind ordinary mirrors.

Chrome Tapware
Choosing a finish for tapware and fixtures is a difficult task for many homeowners. As a helpful bathroom renovation idea, it’s best to acquire all fixtures and accessories in the same material and finish for a consistent colour scheme throughout the space. Some finishes, such as chrome and most brushed-nickel finishes, have a standard colour, but not all finishes from various firms appear the same.
Chrome tapware was a no-brainer for creating a serene aesthetic in this bathroom renovation Newcastle. The timeless style of silver creates a clean and long-lasting tapware finish and makes coordinating other bathroom accessories and fixtures easy as chrome goes with everything!

Mixing Materials
To give this bathroom renovation Newcastle depth and intrigue, the designers mixed a variety of natural materials. The mixture of materials serves as a focal point with contrasting and complementing wood features, marble stone tiles, chrome, and plenty of plants for a pop of colour.
The coldness of the polished metal and marble tiles contrasts with the warmth of the wood basin. The straight lines of the bespoke wood vanity provide a warm touch whilst complimenting the rounded metal features. While black and grey accents give a touch of industrial style to this serene scheme.
Usually, metal tapware, mirrors and sinks stick out like a sore thumb, but our designers were careful in this bathroom renovation Newcastle and chose round features to create a more subtle aesthetic.
