Bathroom Renovation Trends According to the Block 2020

Whether you’re a lover of reality tv shows or not, the Block hosted by Scott Cam is a rare competition show. Not only does it entertain, but it is respected within the renovation industry and sets seasonal trends.

As the reality TV series wraps up for the season, there are a few stand out bathroom designs that have been featured across the five houses. Each of the five houses have four bathrooms, where luxurious minimalism is the shared design aesthetic.

The Block 2020 has taught us, less is more when achieving a luxe bathroom. Featuring pared-back monochromatic colour palettes, hints of natural woods and feature pastel colours.

House 1 – Harry & Tash

This season’s most commonly used design is matte black tapware with matching storage. Mate fittings, fixtures and materials are used to make statements, achieving an overall luxurious minimalist aesthetic. Terrazzo stone is another popular 2020 feature, this polished stone consists of speckled pieces of marble, quartz, granite, glass, and other unique materials.

Terrazzo flooring is seamlessly mirrored onto the walls, creating the allusion of a larger bathroom. The terrazzo is broken up with alternating feature walls, bold paint colours and unique patterned tiles create a visually interesting space. The highlight of these bathrooms are the recessed shower shelves, which are beautifully illuminated with downlights. Novale recently completed a large bathroom renovation in Beaumont Hills, which included several recessed shelves.

House 2 – Sarah & George

Bathe in more monochromatic designs with House Two’s matching matte black shower, bathtub, vanity and tapware. The seasonal favourite of mate black is broken up with contrasting white wall titles and large white floors tiles. Pops of blush pink brighten up each of the four bathrooms, from pink titles and pink wallpapers featuring Grafico tree designs. These retreat-style designs emulate styles seen at boutique hotels and luxury spas, setting a serene and calming tone.

House 3 – Daniel & Jade

House Three also sticks to the modern favourite – matte black tapware and storage finishes. Bold monochromatic contrasts between black marbles and light white tiles create a high level of sophistication. The standout feature in these bathrooms is the strategically placed skylights, which are perfect for making spaces seem bigger and lighter, and perfect for indoor plants! House 4 – Luke & Jasmin

House Four breaks the matte black trend, but still embraces a minimalist colour palette in their bathrooms. Instead, brass-finished storage and matching brass tapware impresses, achieving an overall luxurious aesthetic. The key to the perfect minimalist aesthetic is to use a combination of textures with only one colour in a space.

This monochromic colour palette is what these bathrooms do perfectly, sticking with a white tone. From terrazzo stone surfaces, white vertical Moroccan concrete tiles and subtle hints of light timbers. Not forgetting the high-tech appliances, including a top of the range Samsung Air-Dresser for dry cleaning at home. Discover more of the must-have smart technology for your next bathroom renovation.

House 5 – Jimmy & Tam

Finally House Five, the winners of The Block 2020! Certainly, their bathrooms are the most colourful on the Block, featuring the bravest colour palette. From green hues to fuzzy peaches & blush pinks. Even though the judges unanimously agreed the bold feature walls were “polarising”, the space is balanced with paired back terrazzo floor tiles and white styling. The season winning brass tapware and gold-finished storage added to the 1950s glamour created by these bathrooms.

Summer 2020 Bathroom Renovation Trends

Its obvious freestanding baths are here to stay; double sinks and showers are a must; matte black tapware and storage are a modern classic and underfloor heating is the newest high-tech trend.
